Position Overview
We seek a graduate student proficient in statistical analysis to support an IRB-approved study evaluating learning outcomes from the Reimagine Our Future sustainability competition at UIUC (herox.com/reimagine2025). The study analyzes student perceptions of sustainability learning, cognitive and emotional engagement, and the educational impact of a major SSC-funded initiative. Findings will contribute to a scholarly journal submission (Frontiers in Education) and inform improvements to future programming.
Key Responsibilities
The Graduate Research Assistant will:
- Conduct quantitative statistical analysis of survey data using XLMiner or similar tools.
- Perform ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability testing (Cronbach’s Alpha), and nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis tests (p < 0.05), or similar analyses.
- Organize and clean datasets and prepare summary tables and figures for publication.
- Assist with thematic categorization of qualitative feedback (cognitive and emotional engagement themes).
- Contribute to the drafting of the final evaluation report.
Research Context
- The study uses a 30-question post-competition survey featuring six-point Likert-scale items across five constructs: competition experience, learning and skill development, sustainability knowledge/SDGs, attitudes and futures thinking, and motivation/reflection.
- Open-ended responses provide qualitative insights into student engagement.
- The research is conducted under Minimal Risk / Exempt IRB status (Educational Research / Program Evaluation).
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate-level coursework in statistics, data analytics, educational psychology, or related fields.
- Strong proficiency with Excel-based statistical tools (e.g., XLMiner) or equivalent software, such as IBM SPSS Statistics.
- Familiarity with ANOVA, reliability analysis, and nonparametric testing.
- Experience with qualitative coding is helpful but not required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Interest in sustainability education, student learning, or program evaluation is a plus.
Educational Impact
