How to Apply
Online Application
If you are interested in the University of Illinois Summer Research Opportunities Program, please complete the following five items and mail the appropriate ones to the address below:
1. Online Application by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 2, 2012.
2. All completed coursework should be provided in an official transcript that includes graded coursework from the 2011 Fall semester. These should be sent via U.S. mail to the address below.
3. Two letters of reference, on official departmental letterhead, from faculty members, academic advisors, or others who are familiar with your academic work.
4. Statement of Purpose and Proposed Research Project should address the following:
Describe how your status as a member of an underrepresented population has influenced your educational and career plans for the future and how it has affected your personal, cultural, and academic development.
Explain how SROP can assist you in shaping and achieving your academic goals
5. Proposed Research Project. Provide a summary of your proposed summer research project. Include the following:
Name of proposed research project/study
How you became interested in this particular research topic
Importance of the study
Coursework that you have completed that is related to this topic
If you are a student at the Urbana campus, you must have your Proposed Research Project Statement approved by your prospective Mentor/Research Advisor. Include the prospective Mentor/Research Advisor's department name, campus mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone number with your statements.
