Welcome to the University of Illinois! Completing the items below will help you as you begin your postdoc. Individual units may have additional items for you to complete, but this list should help you get started.

  • Check-in with your faculty mentor.
  • Check-in with your department administrator or HR representative. He or she will talk to you about the new hire paperwork that must be completed before you begin work.
  • (If an international scholar) Check-in with International Student and Scholar Services. The office is located at 616 E. Green St., Suite 201, Champaign.
  • Complete information on the NESSIE New Hire website. The login information will be provided by your hiring unit.

  • Obtain your University identification card (or i-card). Bring your passport or US driver’s license or state ID card to the ID center on the first floor of the Illini Union Bookstore at 809 S. • Obtain a Social Security Number (SSN) if you do not already have one.
  • Register for and attend a benefits orientation session if you are eligible for benefits and complete the New Hire Benefits Checklist.  For more information about the benefits orientation session, call 217-333-3111.

  • Open a bank account.  University Payroll deposits funds via direct deposit.
