Illinois Professional Science Master’s (PSM) Program Development Workshop

March 13, 2012

9:00 - 10:00 a.m.

Illini Union, Room 210

Registration is requested.

The Graduate College will host a workshop for faculty and staff who are interested in developing an Illinois Professional Science Master’s (PSM) program.  The workshop will take place on Tuesday, March 13 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in Illini Union Room 210.

The Illinois PSM is a 16-month program that is completed in three semesters and includes a summer internship with a relevant business or organization. A thesis is not required. Programs have solid core graduate-level curricula in an area of science, which is then integrated with business courses such as management and marketing, accounting and finance, and project management. It is designed for students who want careers in science-based settings in positions that combine science with management and leadership responsibilities.

The Urbana campus currently offers five PSM degree programs: agricultural production, bioenergy, food science and human nutrition, plant biology, and technical systems management.  Disciplines may find the PSM an ideal way to serve students whose career goals do not require a thesis masters or a doctorate.
