Derek Attig is Assistant Director for Student Outreach at the Graduate College Career Development Office. After earning a PhD in History here at Illinois, Derek worked in nonprofit communications and instructional development before joining the Career Development team. A devotee of libraries and all things peculiar, Derek is currently writing a book about bookmobiles.
Caitlin Edwards is the Communications Specialist at the Graduate College. She's currently pursuing a Master's of Science degree in Tourism Management at the university. Her research focuses on sustainable community development through tourism and in her free time, you can find her traveling, cooking, and exploring with her handsome pug, Torbin.
Donzell Lampkins is a 1st year graduate student pursuing a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Healthcare. He hopes to become an Oncology Social Worker to assess and address the psychosocial and sociocultural needs of cancer patients and their families through counseling, referrals to resources, and advocacy. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Ke-Ana, swimming, running, and attending Sunday Worship Service.
Ana Martin is a 6th year PhD student in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Illinois. She is spending the 2015 - 2016 academic year living and researching in Barcelona, Spain on a Fulbright Research Fellowship. Her research centers on wastewater treatment. Ana will be reporting in from the field to tell us all about her experience as an Illinois graduate student living abroad.
Laura Spradlin is the Thesis Coordinator at the Graduate College. She is an alumna of the iSchool at Illinois and studied English and French at Illinois Wesleyan University. Prior to joining the Graduate College, Laura worked in communications and public libraries. In her spare time, you can find her browsing libraries and used bookstores, writing, knitting, or running (slowly).
Karen Ruhleder joined the Graduate College in 2014. As Assistant Director of External Fellowships, she presents proposal writing workshops for graduate students and postdocs in STEM fields and individually advises graduate students applying for grants and fellowships across all disciplines. She also helps manage the Fellowship Finder database – a nationally recognized listing of funding awards available to graduate students. Ruhleder earned a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science and a B.A. in German Language and Literature from the University of California at Irvine.
Wojtek J. Chodzko-Zajko, PhD, is Dean of the Graduate College, Interim Dean of the College of Media, and Shahid and Ann Carlson Khan Professor in Applied Health Sciences. His primary research interests are in the area of aging and health. He spends his free time entertaining and being entertained by his three young children.
