Silent Voices: Latino Immigrant Parents' Views on Secondary Education

This research examines Latino parents' views about parental involvement opportunities in schools based on their culture and direct experience as opposed to how it is traditionally viewed by the schools themselves. It also seeks to expose the importance of parental involvement as a means of empowerment to effect change in the education of Latino youth. Lastly, through careful examination of interviews with 3 Latino immigrant parents, it attempts to give voice to parents and raise awareness in the local community of Urbana-Champaign regarding the needs of Latino high school parents.
