Programming a Database on a Compaq iPaq Pocket PC using embedded Visual Basic

A system that is based on the condition indexing approach has been developed by the ERDC-CERL. This system is proposed for the inspection, condition rating, and evaluation of dam gates and for prioritizing maintenance requirements. The approach is found to be very useful in the study of a complex system that consist of civil, mechanical, and electrical components and where operational aspects are also very important.

My research involves programming a graphical user interface in embedded Visual Basic onto a Compaq iPaq Pocket PC. This interface will be able to accept infrastructure inspection data for dams, locks, gates, and be able to calculate ratings based on pre-determined algorithms. It will also be able to transfer data between desktop and device where it can either be stored, printed, etc. In turn it will help civil engineers easily develop, modify, and store the evaluations of the condition of the spillways and prioritize maintenance needs. Once the program has been written I will also work on developing a procedure manual to accompany it.
