Poverty's Affect on Educational Achievement for Minorities

For years, education has been one of the major factors in the lives and success of minorities. Furthermore, poverty has been a major hindrance in the educational achievement for minorities. This research explores the effect of poverty on educational attainment in the Chicago area. Information was gathered from the Illinois Board of Education database and from previously written academic literature to compare the difference between the education of students of color from low-income backgrounds in urban areas with the education of white students from high income families living in the suburban areas. Once this research was correlated I found that poverty has a significant effect on the educational attainment of minorities and the institutions they attend.
