Multicultural Instrumental Music Education in High Schools
Multicultural education is "an idea or concept: an educational reform movement: and a process (Banks, 2001, 3)." Its importance grows as the student population in U.S. schools continues to diversify racially and ethnically. Multicultural music education is an important opportunity for advancing the goals of multicultural education. The Survey of Multicultural Music Education Practice and Orientation is designed to quantify and describe secondary instrumental music teachers' multicultural music education preparation and practice. The results of this study will allow me to provide recommendations for school and district administrators, parents, as well as college students and professors about how to engage a more-diverse student population in school music programs.
