The Motivating Factors Behind the Globalization of Basketball

The research that was performed focused on the globalization of American professional basketball. The National Basketball Association (NBA) is viewed as one of the leading sports leagues in the world. However its primary motive for helping basketball become a global sport wasn't just to share it with other countries. Most people take professional basketball at face value and do not consider the business and politics behind the sport. In order to see why the NBA has decided to globalize basketball, this research examined the international media coverage; and how it affects corporate sponsorship, and studied the contributions of Michael Jordan and David Stern. The meta-analysis method was used for this research project. It was discovered that international basketball camps, the aggressive marketing of the NBA by David Stern, the influence of Michael Jordan, media coverage, and corporate sponsorship all contributed to the globalization of basketball. It was also discovered that many countries use international sporting events in order to influence other competing countries.
