Minority Internships in Advertising

Diversity and multiculturalism are very important dynamics in today's marketing and advertising industry. Several internship programs have been formed in order to recruit minority candidates for positions in the field. These internship programs are designed to increase diversity in the industry as well as contribute to the positive career development of interns, however more research was needed in order to determine exactly how this is so. In order to come to a conclusion, many interviews were given to industry recruiters, professionals, past minority internship/program participants, minority internship/program coordinators, and industry professionals who sponsor the internships/programs. Before this research was conducted, it was expected that minority internships do contribute to positive career development for interns. After interviewing those stated above, it was concluded that minority internships do contribute to positive career development, professional development, job placement, and assist former participants make positive contributions to the advertising industry.
