MATLAB Simulation of a Single-Phase Induction Motor
Single-Phase Induction Motors are machines used for domestic and commercial applications. Pure single-phase motors cannot start rotating on their own; they require auxiliary components to initiate the rotation. There have been many different single-phase motor designs to mend the start-up problem and optimize the performance of these machines. This paper presents a MATLAB simulation of the Permanent-Split Capacitor motor design. The goal of this simulation is to obtain data and to analyze the efficiency and imbalance of the motor design by the variation of the capacitor size. The ripple in the rotor speed and the magnitude of rotor and stator currents are used to measure the imbalance of the motor. Also, results from a simulation of a Two-Phase Induction Motor are used to compare and analyze for differences in balance of the machines. The efficiency is calculated in terms of power loss in the stator and rotor of the single-phase induction motor.
