Master Plan for Urban Revitalization of Downtown Champaign, Illinois

The purpose of this study was to create a master plan for the downtown district of Champaign, Illinois which will stimulate urban revitalization. The study was primarily focused on developing a master plan incorporating design policies and recommendations for the City of Champaign. The recommendations for the downtown district will be presented to the Champaign City Planning Department in hopes of encouraging/influencing their master planning process. The design initiatives include: designs for a key structure in the downtown district, schemes for railroad underpasses to create a strong connection with the University of Illinois Campus town, analysis of the city's parking situation and designs for parking decks in order to ease congestion, and designs for streetscapes/alleyways which sequentially will encourage pedestrian movement as well as retail/commercial expansion.
