The Implications of Music Therapy on the Grief Counseling Process for College Students
This comparative analysis investigated the paradigm of music therapy alongside strategies implemented in the grief counseling process following the termination of a romantic relationship in college students. Attachment theory is used as a conceptual frame to analyzing relationship styles. College students have turned to music as means of therapy for relationship termination. The grief therapy process currently implemented for counseling at the college/university level has overlooked the evolution and application of music into a therapeutic setting for today's dynamic and technologically perceptive students. Music therapy is shown to be an effective method for use in the grief process. Alternative therapies need to be utilized in addition to current intervention strategies as they relate to grief.
