Developing a Document Type Definition in order to Access Environmental Compliance Protocol Manuals
In order to access massive amounts of information, the proper means of obtaining the information can be impeded by many different things. Applications such as MS Word and MS Access are used in many cases when dealing with massive amounts of data and metadata. However, this is not necessarily the best solution when dealing with Web based applications. XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is a new and upcoming language that is used primarily when dealing with web-based applications. A subset of this is a Document Type Definition (DTD). This allows for various XML files to parse data to and from their designated locations. The Engineering Research and Development Center for the Construction Engineering Research Lab (ERDC-CERL) needs this type of proficiency in order to maintain the needs of several different federal agencies. Will utilizing a method such as a Document Type Definition (DTD) and a language such as XML help to heighten the process involved in accessing the environmental compliance assessment protocol manuals? The solution to this question remains to be seen.
