Determining the Geometric Arrangement of Nitroaromatic / Cyclodextrin Complexes Using Zero Valent Iron
This research will attempt to determine the orientation of the nitroaromatic/cyclodextrin complexes using zero valent iron. Zero Valent Iron has the ability to reduce nitro groups to amino groups. Any nitro group outside the Cd will be reduced. High Pressure Liquid Chromatography can identify any reduced nitro group(s). Depending on which nitro group(s) were reduced the orientation of nitroaromatics inside the CD should be indentifiable. After HPLC analysis new products were formed. Characterization of the new products is currently being investigated. This research could be beneficial in the clean up of contaminated soils and water from nitroaromatic waste from military ammuiniton.
