Contradictions between advertising and editorial content in women's health and

The purpose of the following study was to expose contradictions that exist between editorial content and advertisements in women's health and fitness magazines. The author contends that these contradictions could potentially be detrimental to readers' health by confusing them on what is and is not healthy for their bodies. A content analysis of Health, Prevention, and Shape magazines during the period of January 2003 through June of 2004 was conducted. The author found a significant number of conflicting editorials and advertisements in Shape magazine, but the results were mixed for Prevention and Health. This led the author to conclude that a more thorough investigation of the hypothesis should be undertaken.
