Changes in the Medicaid Policy

The purpose of this study was to see how recent federal Medicaid law affected health care delivery at local public clinics in Illinois. In order to accomplish this, a broad examination of the history of Medicaid, the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (DRA), the June 9, 2006 guidance to state Medicaid directors, the Illinois Medicaid program, and the Illinois All Kids program was completed. Questionnaires were also sent out via email to two employees at two different local public health clinics in Illinois. The questionnaires dealt with each clinics clientele, their services provided, and the populations that the clinic serves. The results indicated that the recent federal Medicaid law has not affected these clinics. These finding contradict many of the reports and studies that were analyzed throughout the research process. Therefore it is necessary for more studies to be done on this topic in order to see the full affect that the new legislation will have on the state of Illinois.
