Black Women Poets of the 1970s
This research will talk about how Black women poets of the 1970s structure their poetry. It will give an in depth examination of each poet's style of writing. This research will focus on the works of Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Mari Evans, and Sonia Sanchez. In many ways their poetry tends to have similarities, yet they all have their own styles of writing. In conducting my research I hope to give readers a better understanding of the different styles of poetry and the structures of writing a poem. A poem can take on many different styles using the same words, depending on how an author decides to write his or her poetry. Black women writers of the 1970s used unique styles such as sonnets, free verse, haiku, and ballads just to name a few. Though speaking on the same issues, the style of writing reflects each poet's own interests.
