A Retrospective Analysis of the Measurement of Source in Organizational Justice: Further Support for the Multifoci Model

How fairly employees are treated impacts their subsequent attitudes and behaviors (Colquitt, Conlon, Wesson, Porter, & Ng, 2001); research has been called for that considers the differential impact of injustice coming from different sources (Cropanzano, Byrne, Bobocel, & Rupp, 2001). The purpose of this study was to set the groundwork for a meta-analysis exploring the role of source in justice effects. Specifically, this study wanted to ascertain the extent to which multifoci justice has been implicitly measured in past research. Fifty justice studies were obtained and coded for justice type, justice source, and other related variables. This analysis found that a majority of the justice studies did not specify more than one source. In addition, the most commonly specified source was the supervisor. More conclusions can be drawn after more sources are analyzed in the full meta-analysis.
