21st Century Student Housing

Too often in student housing complexes on college campuses across America, quality of living is directly proportional to a student's family income. College campuses become large social and economic "salad bowls" where people of the same economic statuses cohabitate only amongst themselves. "21st Century Student Housing" is an architectural design and study that will change this "salad bowl" issue. Using the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) campus as a case study and a site for the design project, architectural design will seek to solve the economic and social gaps that lie between different groups of people by creating a student housing complex that incorporates luxury amenities fused in with a range of housing options from single dormitory rooms sharing bathing and eating spaces to private four bedroom dwellings. By combining these different living options into one community, architectural design will force cooperation and interaction between peoples of different economic statuses.
