Assistant Director of External Fellowships

 
The Assistant Director provides support for programs and initiatives developed and delivered by the Graduate College Fellowship Office under the direction of the Director of External Fellowships. 
 
External grants and fellowships provide essential support and resources to enable graduate students to further their academic pursuits. These awards recognize scholarly excellence and bring national distinction to our graduate students and the University. The Assistant Director, in consultation with Graduate College and campus colleagues, will contribute to the Graduate College efforts to increase the number of grant and fellowship awards received by graduate students and the Graduate College.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Provide support and guidance to assist Illinois graduate students in securing external funding.
 
  • Develop and offer workshops for students and faculty
  • Develop and maintain online resources
  • Gather data and establish priorities
  • Collaborate in the development of publications
  • Advise students in the development of applications
 
Participate in Graduate College efforts to secure funding for graduate student support
  • Identifying potential sponsors
  • Grant-writing
  • Travel as needed to establish direct contact and build relationships with foundations and agencies in order to promote funding for graduate education.
 
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree required; doctorate preferred
  • Relevant experience in a higher education environment (teaching, advising, program administration, academic grant writing)
  • Demonstrated experience with individuals and in groups with graduate students (workshop presentations, advising) is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively synthesize and present complex information is required.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects is required.
  • Ability to interact professionally and work collaboratively with diverse groups of faculty, administrators, students and external constituents is required. 
 
Salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
 
APPOINTMENT STATUS: This is a 12-month, 100% academic professional position with applicable University benefits.
